Register now for APCA’s 2010 Conference

 

APCA invites the palliative care community from Africa and overseas to its third triennial conference, in Windhoek, Namibia, from 15-17 September 2010. You can now register online at www.apca-windhoek2010.com.
 
The conference theme, Creativity in Practice, reflects both the current reality of palliative care provision on the continent – which demands a great deal of creativity from its overstretched practitioners – and the resourcefulness we will all need to draw on in the future if we want to realise APCA’s vision of high-quality palliative care for all in Africa who need it.

We’re administering a small grants programme on behalf of the True Colours Trust, to support the development of palliative care in Africa, and we invite hospices and palliative care providers across the continent to apply.

2008-2009 Annual Report

What is palliative care? In a nutshell, palliative care is a human right. That's APCA's passionate belief and we're working on many fronts to promote it across Africa: raising awareness, developing skills, connecting people, opening minds and harnessing resources.

Dignity in old age

Palliative Care means people in old age can live free from pain, with dignity and independence... They know someone is caring.”  Research respondent

APCA’s research study Bridging the Gap gives voice to elderly people and their carers in Kenya and Uganda. Compiled in conjunction with Help the Aged, the report paints a moving picture of older people’s life experiences and identifies their palliative care needs.

The jury is back!
The jury is back with a verdict: PEPFAR has been a great success. Yes, there may be problems, headaches, struggles, and frustrations, but, at the end of the day, nearly two million people are receiving antiretroviral treatment that otherwise wouldn’t, palliative care in Africa has been given a big boost in resources, and a new standard for international health assistance has been set.
